July 21, 1899

21 Jul

My favourite writer, and the one who has influenced me the most, Ernest Hemingway, was born on this date. For those few, a handful really, who knew ahead of time what was going on to-day—July 21st—in my personal life, I wish to underscore that “momentofchoice” and I didn’t plan for this particular date to be married, 109 years after the birth of this man; it just fell into place this way. It was a seemingly hasty, whirlwind of a decision made against all tradition and that which seemingly de-values reality by falsely inflating it with undue pomp and circumstance. (Seemingly is the key word here, if you haven’t noticed) There is another brow-raising coincidence involving the separate party who was witness to to-day’s civil proceeding, but I won’t touch on it. We’ll just pass it all off as celestial weirdness, and the stuff which makes one shrug like a fool, while donning a smug little smile, as if he knows or has control of it all. As is apropos with us, the preliminary hours were spent lying about, relaxed, listening to John Coltrane, while sipping on small Martinis or Manhattans. And the ceremony itself, was actually quite entertaining, given that these “courthouse things” are usually dry and devoid of any melancholy or tradition. Let’s just say our magistrate might have had dreams of being a dramatic actor at one time. (He would’ve made a great substitution to Charlton Heston’s Moses). In the end, just know that everything is right. For once.

Muchas, but muchas felicidades!!! I know you will keep in your memory what happened today as one of the best and most important days of your life. Regardless of the “missing” pomp and circunstance.

    Congratulations again.
