Pandering To The Base

22 Oct

A huge thanks to the new people who have been checking in frequently here for fiction (as well as the regulars; you know who you are and if you don’t, then take your meds!). Over the last few months, this site’s readership has doubled daily—admittedly through some “footwork” from us; nothing just happens by itself, I realize that. So we’ve been working, yes, but I am so grateful for everyone who checks back in over and over and over; often several times a day. Pressure, pressure.

I want to take the opportunity to spotlight a few projects of which I’m very proud, and with which I’ve been attached recently.

If you are interested in socio-political issues and good commentary or analysis, navigate over to The Savvy, The Extreme & The Idealist. I, along with a handful of young, sharp, progressive writers, am honored to be one of the contributors to this new site. If you have time in your day for rational, intelligent commentary, do check us out. Columns and postings are frequent—sometimes reaching three or more throughout the day—and readership is climbing.

My Canadian friend (and family member), photographer and environmentally-concerned citizen Jason Chapman is running a sharp, insightful site out of Toronto, focusing on the state of our planet. This Is What Is was started by Jason nearly a year ago as a platform for accurate information, civilised discussion, and, hopefully, change. Please check-in often for a northern perspective on an alarming and timely issue. As a working artist and activist, Jason aims to raise awareness via his lucid photo essays, as well as resources and commentary on his site.

Finally, momentofchoice is a clearinghouse of helpful, relevant information (check out the links on its sidebar), as well as concise commentary on important political and social issues. I am admittedly jaded (but in a good way), as the site is written by my wife—also a contributor to The Savvy, The Extreme & The Idealist.

Thanks for all your support throughout the last five years, and for frequently coming back to read. This site will focus mainly on short-short fiction; sometimes a good escape from the issues facing us in our lives.

many thanks for sharing the wealth, my friend.
as for the “pressure” you feel from your many anxious readers, there’s an easy fix: pretend they’re all naked. no, wait, that’s for something else. just stop looking at your stats!
    never mind. just keep writing.

You are more than welcome. I cannot imagine people naked, because unlike “normal” people, my imagination leads me down ugly, macabre side streets and alleys, and so becomes very detrimental.

I’ve been taking my meds but I’m still not sure who I want to be when I grow up.

But maybe I’ll have a grown up job soon. And more time (fewer weekends buried in 80 student papers on argument of the moment). :)

Been reading, just not commenting much. YOu know I lurve everything you do.

    And I thank you, Kim.
