a moveable feast

6 May

i have never trusted modern writers who use words like “boutonniere”
unless they are french
and even then they are suspect
most of these men and women
wave their credentials in my face
pieces of paper from fancy universities
or drop names of other more famous writers
or novels or concepts
ford madox ford
john dos passos
i know them all (as well)
(i also studied them)
most of these men and women
wander around the streets of such and such glitzy city
sitting in cafés with well-worn moleskines and pencils
attempting to fix the world in words
as it walks past the window
only the window is dirty
smudgy grimy oily
but they don’t seem to notice that
writing becomes just motions melancholic longing
when in fact it is guerrilla warfare
unloading full metal jackets into the maelstrom
terminating with extreme prejudice
in the most elegant way
